[ It's hard to count the way Eddie's life has changed in just the span of a few months. He thinks he can mark the change in trajectory to one specific moment, to Chrissy Cunningham of all people asking him for a drug deal. He's used to people most would never suspect asking for drugs, but her... there had just been something different about it. His deals didn't usually involve obvious flirting, offerings of discounts, reminiscing on previous connections. But he could tell she was going through something, and it was his job to try and help. And then she had asked for something stronger. He had it, tucked away somewhere in his trailer. There was nothing surprising about him having what she was after, but what was surprising was that she was willing to go there to get it.
So he had ferried them both there in his van, had explained to her just what taking special k involved. She had tried it right there in his trailer, under his supervision, and he had made sure she was alright. Everything had been completely, or, more or less, above the board. She had leaned against him, her hands a little more free with their touches, and despite the way each had sent electricity running through him, Eddie had kept his own hands to himself.
And so they had moved on, both of them determined to finish out their final year of high school. Against all odds, they had managed to squeak over the finish line, had earned the piece of paper that declared they were at last done with Hawkins High. Eddie still can't believe it, for as much as he had proclaimed 86 would be his year, the feeling is nothing short of surreal. He's free at last, finally, and that silly piece of paper grants him a surprising amount of opportunities. He has no plans for college, but the sudden opening of avenues leaves him dizzy.
There's no celebration for his own graduation, but he's managed to be invited to Chrissy's. Her parents seem to have spared no expense, and he drifts between the party goers, a plastic solo cup clutched in his hand. Between friends and family, it's been difficult to get her attention, but at last he's managed to get the happy graduate alone. ]
Hey. [ Eddie raises his cup, a little tipsy, a lot relaxed, but somehow he can feel Jason's gaze on him, even now. ] Guess it's finally my chance to say congratulations.

[She's so excited about getting into the water that she can't pull her little sundress over her head fast enough. It requires being out of his arms, but she's willing to make the sacrifice when it means she gets to prance around in a bikini and hurry into the water so he'll have to run and chase her.
It's easy to visualize a perfect beach moment. Them in the water, him having to hurry after her, arms wrapping around her to pull her in close. Hoping maybe he has a similar idea in mind, she glances over her shoulder with a look that tells him to come get her as she steps into the water.
The temperature is amazing, and she winds up hurrying in and stopping when it reaches her hips. Yeah, she could definitely wind up staying out here for hours and losing track of time completely. It's beautiful.]

Hey, wait up!
[ He's already reaching to pull his shirt over his head as he splashes into the water, tossing it back towards the sand. Over the years his chest and back have slowly filled up with tattoos, skulls and roses and all sort of decorations splayed out over his skin. Eddie catches up with her quickly, takes a moment to just hold her while the water laps around them. ]
I was worried you might turn into a mermaid and disappear.

[She teases, laughing softly as she steals a kiss. It's nice, to have absolutely no stress or worries in the moment. To be able to stand in the middle of the ocean and know that there's nothing they need to worry about other than spending time with each other.
And right now, she wants to spend time with Eddie in the water. She's grinning as she presses her hand against one of the rose tattoos on him, and starts to drag them both out further into the water.]
I'd make an amazing mermaid, though. I'm already trying to drag you out to sea.

[ He laughs as she drags him further out into the surfer, the water coming up to their thighs. It's impossible to imagine that scarcely a day ago they were in land locked Indiana. This feels like more than paradise, it feels like heaven. ]
You know, there were other creatures that dragged men out to sea just to drown them. Sirens, kelpies... you sure you wouldn't be one of them?

[It's almost a teasing sing-song, the way she croons it. She kisses him like she's trying to lure him in, her tongue meeting his as she groans ever so sweetly for him. The contact doesn't last of course, because Chrissy pulls away and starts backing further and further into the water.
She goes out until the water is at her breasts, and she just grins because she knows of course he'll follow.]

[ Eddie gives her a grin before diving beneath the surface, luxuriating in the feel of the sun warmed water. They spend at least an hour this way, laughing, splashing, diving beneath the lazily curling waves. It's almost enough to make him forget that they have somewhere important to be, but not quite. At last, they drag themselves out of the surf and back to shore, stopping for kisses every few feet. ]
Come on. [ He says as he threads his hand in hers, tugging her in the direction of their hotel. ] We'd better get cleaned up. Our room has a huge shower, if you didn't notice. I'm looking forward to testing that out.

[She's been too taken with everything else. And she's a little reluctant to leave the beach, but she knows that they have something big to get ready for. Something far more important than playing around in the ocean. The fact that there's a huge shower they can share is appealing though, and she gives him a flirtatious glance as he tugs her along back toward the hotel.
They still stop every few feet to kiss and whisper sweet promises and declarations of love to one another. It's as if they can't seem to get enough of one another, a fact that becomes evident as they finally reach their room and he pulls her straight into the bathroom. He undresses her slowly and gets her into the shower before he takes a minute to himself. It's while she's washing her hair that she feels him slip in behind her, completely dedicated to distracting her from actually getting clean.
They probably spend an hour in the shower together, driving each other crazy without ever actually doing anything more than light touches and kissing. Somehow, they manage to get clean before the water turns cold. But they're still making out when the water becomes icy, and it's Chrissy that nearly screams with laughter and bolts.
She's focused after they're bundled up in the fluffy white hotel robes, completely dedicated to getting ready for their ceremony. He doesn't have as much work to do, but she still helps him fuss over his hair while she dries and works on hers. But she shoos him away once it's time for makeup and getting dressed.]
You'll just have to wait to see me when I'm done.
[And she makes good on that, locking herself in the bathroom alone so she can finish getting ready. It's only once her hair and makeup are done and she needs help tying the dress that she steps out, almost looking shy about him seeing her this done up. He's never seen her like this before.]
Can you do the back up for me? It's the one thing I can't do myself.

At some point, he's ushered out of the bathroom, spends most of his time pacing across the suite. There's nothing to be nervous about at this point, and yet he feels impossibly boyish at this moment. All of the years, the missed opportunities, the way their lives have intersected-- they all pile upon him at this moment and make him feel fragile, in the unsure, teenage, sort of way.
Chrissy's voice pierces through all of that, grabs his attention amid everything else. He's grinning as he moves to zip up her dress, tries not to spend too much time looking at her enveloped in the layers of silk and chiffon.
Once she's dressed, it doesn't take long for Eddie to step into his suit. He fumbles with the buttons, the jacket, all of it suddenly foreign to him. They're both dressed to the nines by the time they emerge from the hotel, stepping into the waiting limo. Eddie tries to keep his gaze skyward, as though he could pretend that he hasn't already seen her in her dress.
The limo deposits them not far from the cliff's edge, and Eddie offers his hand out to her as they make the trek over flora and fauna. There's a man waiting for them at the cliff's edge, dressed in a sharp suit, smiling as the two approach. Eddie only stops to catch his breath once they're stationed in front of him, though it's nearly impossible once he takes in Chrissy in her full, stunning, beauty. ]
Oh, Chrissy. [ He says softly, his voice breaking and betraying him. ] I never thought I'd see you looking this beautiful.

They stand like that for far longer than necessary, until it's just the two of them left standing out alone. They're absorbed in one another, lost in their own world build by love and a desperate need to be together for the rest of their forever.]
I can't believe I'm Mrs. Munson now. It doesn't feel real yet.
[Her voice is soft and airy, filled with awe. She had known that was coming, but actually saying it out loud feels surreal. For so many years their paths have crossed but never intersected properly. It's taken them so long to get to this point, but they've finally made it. And she couldn't be happier. She kisses him again, over and over, letting things build until she's dizzy and love drunk.]
